Restraint and Seclusion Data
The State of California Education Code (EC) 49006 requires that Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) report annually on the use of behavioral restraints and seclusion for students enrolled in or served by the LEA in the prior school year. This data is collected and reported as part of the End-of-Year (EOY 3) annual data submission to the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS). In addition, each LEA is required to post restraint and seclusion data to its website. The report includes information on:
- Mechanical Restraint: Use of a device or equipment to restrict a pupil’s freedom of movement (with exceptions).
- Physical Restraint: A personal restriction that immobilizes or reduces the ability of a pupil to move his or her torso, arms, legs, or head freely (with exceptions).
- Seclusion: The involuntary confinement of a pupil alone in a room or area from which the pupil is physically prevented from leaving.
This report contains restraint and seclusion data for the 2023-2024 school year.
Additional information can be found on the California Department of Education (CDE) website.
