Board of Education Names Shant Sahakian Board President and Welcomes Newly Elected Members...
GLENDALE, CA – On Tuesday, April 9, the Glendale Unified Board of Education completed its annual rotation of officers. Shant Sahakian assumed the role of Board President for 2024-25, and Neda Farid and Telly Tse were sworn in as newly elected members.
Board President Sahakian was elected to the Glendale Unified Board of Education in 2017. He is a lifelong resident of the City of Glendale, a proud GUSD alumnus, and the parent of two current GUSD students. As a board member, he has championed academic, financial literacy, and career and technical education programs that prepare students for success in college, career, and life. He is an advocate for healthy, safe, and inclusive schools for all and is deeply committed to responsible governance, transparency, and accountability. In addition to serving locally, Mr. Sahakian represents GUSD and surrounding school districts at the state level as a member of the California School Boards Association Delegate Assembly.
Telly Tse and Neda Farid were recently elected to represent Trustee Areas A and E, respectively. Mr. Tse has dedicated his career to public education, serving as a teacher, tutor, and labor leader. He is currently a special education teacher in the Beverly Hills Unified School District. A parent of two current GUSD students, Mr. Tse is an active volunteer and coach in the Glendale and La Crescenta communities. Ms. Farid is a longtime leader in the GUSD community and parent of a GUSD alumnus. She has previously served as Glendale Council PTA President, a Board Member for the Glendale Educational Foundation and Character and Ethics Project, a founding member of GUSD’s Restorative Practices Task Force, and a member of the Superintendent’s Facilities Advisory Committee.
