Journey to College Success

Preparing for college and career success doesn’t have to wait until high school! Encourage your children to explore their interests, set goals, and get ready for college from a young age.

  • Develop Positive Study Habits - Create easy to follow routines at home to help your child develop character and skill-building. Support your child in their academic schoolwork and encouraging a culture of learning at home. 

    Encourage School Engagement - Encourage your child to be present each day for class. Allow them to explore their likes, interests, and hobbies. 

    Get Involved - Participate in parent opportunities and groups at your school.

    Participate in Enrichment and Extracurricular Activities - Allow your child to participate in school-sponsored activities and encourage participation in enrichment and extracurricular programs.

    Plan for Future Success - Communicate with your child about how their activities and interests outside of school can lead them to success and career opportunities in the future. 

    Prepare for College & Career Assessments - Encourage a positive outlook on assessments as a means to improve and expand on knowledge. Connect to a school counselor regarding career assessments or activities for your child. 

    Promote Financial Literacy - Teach your child about savings and financial literacy by setting up a piggy bank, savings account, or allowance system.

    Start Saving for College - Learn more about college savings accounts and the GUSD College Success Fund.
