Classified Employment Process

Glendale Unified School District is a merit system district dedicated to the proper selection and retention of classified employees.

Classified Employment (Non-Teaching Jobs) and the Merit System

The Merit System is a system of rules and procedures similar to civil service, which governs classified school personnel. Its fundamental purpose is to ensure that employees are selected, promoted, and retained without favoritism or prejudice, on the basis of merit and fitness. Adherence to the merit system principles, as regulated by the California Education Code and the District's Classified Rules and Regulations is overseen by a three member Personnel Commission.

Classified positions generally have no credential requirements. Instead, they have specific experience or education requirements, as well as district's testing process in accordance with the merit system that provide competitive opportunities for all qualified applicants. Positions such as clerical and secretarial, accounting, custodial, food services, and education assistants are under this category. Please review the class descriptions to help you determine whether you meet the minimum requirements. Except for continuous recruitments, applications for Classified employment are accepted only as positions become available.

Management Employment (Certificated and Classified)

Applications for management positions are also accepted only as positions become available. Certificated and Classified positions require different types of application forms.
