Developer Fees
The Glendale Unified School District, as authorized under California Government Code, collects school developer fees on new residential and commercial construction projects. These fees help offset the cost of providing school facilities to serve students generated by new development. The State-approved and District-approved rates are $5.38 per square foot for Residential Development, $0.87 per square foot for Commercial/Industrial Development, and $0.14 per square foot for Commercial Self-storage Properties.
For residential projects, fees are applied only when there is an increase in “assessable space” of 500 square feet or more. Assessable space refers to the enclosed, habitable building area of a residential structure, generally space used for living, sleeping, eating, and cooking. For commercial projects, fees are applied per law.

Based on the above, developers are required to pay the Glendale Unified School District a fee prior to the issuance of a building permit. Upon completion of all requirements, the Glendale Unified School District will issue a Certificate of Compliance. All fees are to be made payable to Glendale Unified School District.
