Glendale Unified School District does not currently have any charter petitions on file.

Charter Petition Archive

  • On April 11, 2017, GUSD received a charter school petition from Options for Youth (OFY).

    Following is the timeline for processing the OFY charter school petition:

    • April 11, 2017 – The GUSD Board of Education formally accepted a charter school petition from Options For Youth (OFY).
    • May 9, 2017 – Petitioners for OFY made a presentation about the proposed charter school to the GUSD Board of Education. The Board invited teachers, other employees of the district, and parents/guardians to voice their position on the charter school petition.
    • May 23, 2017 – GUSD leadership made a presentation about the propsoed charter school to the GUSD Board of Education.
    • June 6, 2017 – The GUSD Board of Education unanimously adopted the staff report and rejected the charter petition.
  • On October 6, 2015, the District received a charter school petition from International Studies Language Academy (ISLA).

    Following is the timeline for processing the Charter School Petition:

    • October 20, 2015 – The GUSD Board of Education formally accepted a charter school petition from International Studies Language Academy (ISLA).
    • November 3, 2015 – The District's legal counsel reviewed the charter school petition process and legal requirements at the GUSD Board of Education meeting as a Discussion item. 
    • November 17, 2015 – Petitioners for ISLA made a presentation about the proposed charter school to the GUSD Board of Education. The Board invited teachers, other employees of the district, and parents/guardians to voice their position on the charter school petition.
    • December 15, 2015 – The GUSD Board of Education unanimously adopted the staff report and rejected the charter petition.
    • December 28, 2015 – The Petitioners filed an appeal petition with the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE).
