- Open to all students living in- and outside Glendale Unified boundaries!
- Available in seven languages beginning in kindergarten (Spanish available for preschool and transitional kindergarten).
- Language taught through content, not as a separate course of study.
- Students become fully bilingual and biliterate in target language.
- Option to continue world language study in high school.
- Students who join the program in upper grades must demonstrate language fluency.

Transitional Kindergarten
Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is the first year of a two-year Kindergarten program that uses a modified Kindergarten curriculum that is age and developmentally appropriate. TK serves a bridge between preschool and kindergarten for children turning 5 years old on or between September 2 and April 2.

TK and Kindergarten Registration Begins February 21!
Get ready for the 2023-24 school year! Enrollment registration for students living in Glendale Unified boundaries is just around the corner!
How to Enroll
- Visit our School Finder to find your school of residence.
- Contact your school to make a registration appointment. Registration appointments for the 2023-24 school year will open on February 21.
- Download and complete a registration packet. Registration packets for the 2023-24 school year will be available in early February.
- Visit preenroll.gusd.net to upload your enrollment packet and supporting documents prior to your registration appointment.
2023-24 Age Requirements
- To enter transitional kindergarten (TK) during the 2023-24 school year, a child must be five (5) years old on or between September 2, 2023 and April 2, 2024.
- To enter kindergarten during the 2023-24 school year, a child must be five (5) years old on or before September 1, 2023.
- To enter 1st grade during the 2023-24 school year, a child must be six (6) years old on or before September 1, 2023.
- To enter all other grade levels, a child will be placed in the appropriate grade level based on date of birth, prior school attendance, and district guidelines.
Inter- and Intra-District Permits

If you do not reside within Glendale Unified School District boundaries, or if you live in the District and would like to attend a school other than your school of residence, you may submit a permit application at gusdpermits.com.

The permit application for the 2023-24 school year opens on March 1.

Space Available in Glendale Unified Afternoon Half-Day Preschool Program!
Our Glendale Unified Child Development and Child Care (CDCC) department provides half-day, tuition-free preschool for income-eligible families. Space is currently available in our afternoon programs at Cerritos, Columbus, and Jefferson Elementary Schools. Program hours: Monday - Friday from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuition-free for income-eligible families! Learn more at www.gusd.net/Preschool.
